The Problem

Roaches

Why Roach Control Can’t Wait

Roach control is one of the most urgent services we offer to homeowners and businesses in the Chicago area. Cockroaches spread bacteria, dirty food prep surfaces, and trigger asthma and allergy symptoms — especially in children. Because of this, roach control should start as soon as you spot activity. The three species that most often show up in Chicago-area homes are:

  • German cockroaches — the most common indoor species; small (1/2 to 5/8 inch), light brown with two dark stripes behind the head; they breed very fast and nest under fridges, behind ovens, and inside cabinets
  • Oriental cockroaches — darker and larger, often called “waterbugs”; they prefer cool, damp spots near floor drains, sump pumps, and basements; moreover, they are common in older homes throughout the North Shore
  • American cockroaches — the largest common species (up to 2 inches); they prefer hot, humid areas such as boiler rooms and commercial kitchens; in addition, they can move in from sewers and utility lines
Important: If you see a cockroach during the day, that is almost always a sign of a large infestation. Cockroaches are active at night by nature. When they come out in daylight, it usually means the population is so crowded they have been pushed into the open. Because of this, any daytime sighting calls for immediate roach control.

Our Roach Control Solution

First, our technicians identify the cockroach species and the size of the problem. Then, they apply a targeted mix of bait and low-risk insecticides. Bait works especially well for German roach control because worker roaches carry the product back to their hiding spots. As a result, it wipes out roaches that never touch a treated surface directly. Finally, we power spray the exterior to stop new roaches from getting in. Every roach control service includes a 30-day warranty.

Annual Roach Control Programs

Cockroaches can re-enter through drains, pipes, and shared walls, so ongoing protection is key — especially for older homes and multi-unit buildings. Our maintenance programs give you the most reliable long-term defense against roaches. Here is what each program includes:

What Our Annual Maintenance Program Includes

  • Quarterly interior checks and targeted roach control treatments
  • Bait station setup and monitoring in kitchen, bathroom, and utility areas
  • Crack-and-crevice treatment along baseboards, under appliances, and around plumbing
  • Exterior perimeter spray to block roaches from coming in through drains and utility gaps
  • Unlimited service calls between visits at no extra charge
  • Priority scheduling for all program members
  • Written treatment reports for businesses that need health inspection records

For commercial kitchens, food businesses, and multi-unit buildings in the Chicago area, a roach control program is not just smart — it is often required for health inspections. Furthermore, staying on a regular program costs far less than dealing with a full-blown infestation down the road. Ask us about our commercial roach control options when you call.

Frequently Asked Questions About Roach Control

Does needing roach control mean my home is dirty?

Not at all. German cockroaches most often come in through cardboard boxes, used appliances, or grocery bags — not because of an unclean home. Similarly, Oriental and American roaches can enter through drains, pipes, and cracks from outside. That said, cutting down on food debris and fixing leaks does help slow how fast a roach problem grows once it starts.

How fast do cockroaches multiply?

Very fast — especially German cockroaches. One pregnant female can produce enough young in a single year to build a population in the thousands. That is exactly why fast roach control matters so much. The longer you wait, the harder and more costly the problem becomes to fix.

Can cockroaches make my family sick?

Yes. Cockroaches carry germs on their bodies and in their droppings that can spread to food and surfaces. These include bacteria linked to salmonella and E. coli. In addition, roach allergens found in shed skins and waste are a known trigger for asthma and allergies — particularly in children. Because of these health risks, roach control should never be put off.

I only saw one cockroach. Is that a problem?

Most likely yes. Cockroaches hide well and stay active at night. If you spot one during the day, it usually means the group has grown large enough to push individuals into the open. In other words, one visible roach often points to many more hiding nearby. We recommend booking roach control right away rather than waiting to see more.

What can I do to keep roaches from coming back?

First, seal cracks around pipes, drains, and baseboards. Second, store food in airtight containers and fix any leaks under sinks. Third, check boxes and used appliances before bringing them inside. Finally, for the most reliable long-term results, our maintenance programs provide quarterly roach control visits and unlimited service calls so the problem never gets a chance to return.
