The Problem

Why You Need a Flea Exterminator — Not Just a Spray
When homeowners call us for a flea exterminator, many have already tried store-bought sprays or foggers — and watched the fleas come right back within a few weeks. The reason is simple: most retail products only kill adult fleas. But adult fleas are just a small part of the problem. A professional flea exterminator addresses the full population at every life stage, which is why it works when DIY does not. About 95% of the flea population in an infested home are eggs, larvae, and pupae — invisible in carpets and furniture. A flea exterminator who only targets adults leaves 95% of the problem behind.
Fleas in Chicago-area homes typically arrive via:
- Pets that have been around other animals, wildlife, or infested outdoor areas
- Rodents or wildlife (raccoons, opossums, squirrels) getting into attic or crawlspace areas
- Used furniture or rugs brought in from infested locations
Because fleas breed so fast, a small problem can become a full home infestation in just a few weeks. That is why calling a flea exterminator early makes a big difference.
Our Flea Exterminator Treatment
Before our flea exterminator visits, we ask that the house be empty for a few hours and that all pets get flea treatment from a vet on the same day. First, our technician treats all carpets and upholstered furniture with a product that includes an insect growth regulator (IGR). The IGR stops flea eggs and larvae from ever developing into adults — breaking the life cycle at the source. Then, special attention goes to all pet resting and sleeping spots, since that is where flea eggs build up most. Finally, we treat any other problem areas the inspection turns up. Every flea exterminator visit includes a 30-day warranty.
Before your flea exterminator appointment: Vacuum all carpets and furniture and throw away the vacuum bag right after. Wash all pet bedding. Make sure the house and all pets are out during treatment and for a few hours after. Take pets to a vet for flea treatment on the same day as our visit.
Annual Flea Exterminator Programs
For pet owners, flea pressure comes back every season. Calling a flea exterminator once only fixes this year’s problem. Our maintenance programs include proactive flea prevention treatments as part of full year-round pest management — so you stay ahead of fleas instead of reacting to them. Here is what each program includes:
What Our Annual Maintenance Program Includes
- Pre-season flea prevention treatment in spring — before flea populations start building
- Summer interior flea exterminator treatment targeting peak activity months
- IGR application at each visit to break the flea life cycle before it gets going
- Exterior treatment of pet areas, kennels, and entry points
- Unlimited service calls between visits at no extra charge
- Vet coordination guidance so pet treatments and home treatments line up for best results
- Priority scheduling for all program members
Pet owners on our annual program stop dealing with the same flea problem every summer. Treating before the season builds is far more effective — and far less disruptive — than calling a flea exterminator in the middle of a full infestation in July.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Flea Exterminator Service
My pet is on flea prevention. Why do I still need a flea exterminator?
Flea prevention products protect your pet, but they do not stop flea eggs from ending up in your carpet before the fleas die. If your pet picks up fleas outside, adult fleas can lay eggs in your home before the prevention kicks in. As a result, your pet may be fine while the home still needs a flea exterminator visit to clear the infestation.
I don’t have pets. How do I have fleas?
If you recently moved into a home where pets used to live, dormant flea pupae in the carpets can hatch when they sense warmth and movement. In addition, wildlife or rodents getting into your attic or crawlspace can bring fleas into a pet-free home. In either case, calling a flea exterminator is the right next step.
Why do I still see fleas after the flea exterminator treated my home?
This is completely normal and does not mean the flea exterminator treatment failed. Adult fleas that were already hatched at the time of the visit may still be active for a week or two. Flea pupae are very resistant to insecticides and can keep hatching for up to two weeks after treatment. However, because the IGR stops new fleas from developing, the population cannot rebuild. Some activity after a flea exterminator visit is expected — it is simply part of the process.
Are fleas dangerous beyond just being itchy?
Yes. Fleas can pass tapeworms to pets and, less often, to people. Flea bites can also cause allergic skin reactions in both pets and humans. Because of this, calling a flea exterminator promptly helps prevent these secondary problems from developing — in addition to stopping the population from growing further.
How long does a flea exterminator treatment take?
The treatment itself usually takes one to two hours depending on the size of the home. We ask that everyone — people and pets — stay out during the visit and for a few hours after. Most homeowners see a big drop in flea activity within the first week, with full results over two to three weeks as the IGR works through the remaining flea life cycle.
