Cuba Marsh wetlands. Cuba Marsh Forest Preserve is one of the most significant wetland habitats in Lake County — and it’s directly adjacent to Deer Park’s western residential areas. Marshes are primary mosquito breeding grounds. Standing water, cattail stands, and wet meadows produce enormous mosquito populations that drift into nearby residential properties every evening. You can’t eliminate the source, but you can create a treated buffer on your own lot.
Deer Grove Forest Preserve. The 2,000+ acres of woodland and low-lying areas to the south collect standing water in natural depressions, fallen tree cavities, and poorly drained areas after rainfall. These woodland pools produce a different mosquito species mix than the marsh, extending the variety and timing of mosquito pressure throughout the season.
Shaded one-acre-plus lots. Deer Park’s large, heavily wooded properties create the cool, humid, shaded conditions mosquitoes prefer for resting during the day. Dense landscaping, shade gardens, and natural undergrowth provide harborage right up to your home. Even properties that eliminate standing water on their own lot face mosquito pressure from adjacent wooded areas and the preserves.
Natural drainage and water features. Deer Park’s rolling topography creates natural low spots where water collects. Drainage swales, decorative ponds, birdbaths, clogged gutters, and planting saucers all provide breeding habitat. On larger properties, these breeding sites can be hundreds of feet from the home yet still produce mosquitoes that reach your patio and deck.
Our program runs every three weeks from May through September — the peak mosquito season in the northwest suburbs. Each visit, a trained technician applies a barrier treatment to the areas of your property where mosquitoes rest and breed. This includes the perimeter vegetation, shrub beds, tree canopy edges, under decks, along fence lines, and around any water features or drainage areas. The treatment creates a residual barrier that kills mosquitoes on contact for approximately 21 days.
During each visit, we identify and address standing water sources on your property. We’ll point out areas you can correct — clogged gutters, planting saucers, low spots in landscaping — and treat water features that can’t be drained with larvicide to prevent mosquito development.

We avoid treating active blooms to protect pollinators. Kids and pets can return to treated areas once the product has dried, typically within 30 minutes.
Yes — but your results depend on creating a strong buffer on your own lot. Properties adjacent to the marsh see heavier mosquito pressure, and we adjust application rates and coverage accordingly. You won’t eliminate every mosquito, but you’ll see a significant reduction that makes your yard usable.
